Boycott Check-In: Mid-2026
Six months into 2026, quick update on the boycott.
Two of the four are totally out. Walmart: still zero, haven't set foot in one since January 2024. Target: also zero this year, down from $960 in 2024. Even though it's the closest store to my home and it's super convenient, I don't really miss it.

Whole Foods is a little down, but about the same as last year. $72.76 across five trips so far. Last year I wrote that the trek to Harris Teeter wasn't worth it, and that I missed Whole Foods the most. Well. Harris Teeter is now my most-visited store -- 18 trips this year.

Amazon is where I'm slipping. $155.31 already, and it's only June. That's more than my entire 2025 total of $87. One $107 order did most of the damage. I got myself a Fitbit.

Everything else just looks like a life. Costco is my biggest single line of spend, groceries are my top category, and my favorite local coffee shop (The Hobbyist) cracked my three most-visited stores.
Still not regressing. I'm thinking about what challenge to add next...
Assorted Notes That Interest Me
- AI spend is $120.
- I spent $3,137.23 on groceries in 6 months. This is compared to $3,378 for all of 2025. What is going on there?!
- My grocery spend is inflated because I often take friends to Costco, pay, and get reimbursed. I don't account for that in my records.
- My most expensive purchase: $845 for therapy. You're welcome, everyone.
- I'm back to having a commute again, and my spending reflects it. $872 for gas in 2025. $1,261 so far in 2026. :(
- Tracked spend is $11,955 so far, compared to $10,785 at this time last year. About an 11% increase YoY.
